If writing's your thing, nothing should stop you.

Don't give up. Keep practicing. That's the only way you'll ever get better - practice makes perfect. Same thing goes for your English. You're obviously not *horrible* since you're question is perfectly readable, so a few grammar classes in college will be good for you. It's not too hard ... but then again, the only languages I speak are English and the language of girls.

And just because you get stuck doesn't mean you can't do it. How about listing all the ideas that come to you in a notebook, and then coming back to one when you're in the mood to write? That way, you'll have a pretty good idea of what you're working with. And try planning it out a little, like events or twists.

Good luck!!

So many people of Indian origin, as well as other Asian people, have become great writers in the Anglo-American tradition. Don't worry about "making it." You are very young for a writer. Begin by reading a lot, and writing. And don't worry too much about getting stuck. For a reading list, look up winners of the Booker Prize in England and of the Pulitzer Prize in America. (You will notice many people of Indian descent, men and women, who have won these awards. Not all of them are well-regarded in India, however! Quite a few are considered rebels -- not unusual for writers, or artists in general.) Read the books, then read about their authors. Many had to overcome huge obstacles before they became successful.

They say it takes about ten years of hard work to build expertise in any field. I think there is a lot of truth in that.

If you feel a *need* to write, by all means do so, even if it never becomes a profession.

On the other hand, very few people actually make a living at writing fiction - I'd certainly not recommend it as a profession to try unless you felt *drawn* to it. I've known plenty of people who were carpenters or plumbers who just had the attitude of "it's a job". You don't have that option as a writer.

It's a hard way to make a living, and you should definitely read more--but no one who's 17 should be giving up on anything.
