you could try some of that coloured tile grout/cement. you might be able to get a good colour match by mixing them.

Anything used to make good a damaged slate floor, must be hard wearing, and be as near to the original colour as possible, and retain its colour.

The first item you will need, is a two part epoxy resin. It must be a "clear when dry" type.

Secondly. you will need a roofing slate,as near a colour match to your floor as you can find. Check out second hand slate merchants in your area.

Once you have your slate. Break it into small pieces (Take care tho, slate cuts like glass) Then keep on reducing the pieces time & time again untill it is like powder.

Now the difficult bit!....You need to add the slate powder to the epoxy resin, this might take a bit of trial and error, to find the correct colour and consistency.

Do a small sample to start with, as when the resin/slate mix dries, it will change colour, so you may need to adjust the mix.

Once you are happy with your sample, scale it up to suit, and apply to your floor.

The epoxy resin is only serving as a "Binder" so don't over do it, just enough to make the mix workable..

You don't say how large the hole is.... off the top of my head some ideas... if it is just a little gap you could mix up some dark/ similar coloured grout...or use black matt sealant smoothed down.... perhaps you could mix a little ground up slate in with grout or 'polyfilla' ....worth a try?... if it is a big hole cutting a new piece of slate would be the answer, ok... I know it would be a different colour but you would soon stop noticing it, you could try to darken it with shoe polish or something....it is better to fix things with the same material even though a different vintage.... eventually they do blend in.... mmmnnn..... good luck....

grout is great, ive used it several hundred times for work , just buy a bag mix with water til its like custard and poor it in the hole, it will settle flat, then add a bit more til the hole if full and use a damp songe to clean the adges and any spills.

eproxy, would be my choice.. you could get them from any hard wear store..
if you get those that will not harden so fast maybe you could colour it to the colour of your floor using simple food colourings...
