Around 1996/97 I was about 6 years old when I visited Universal studios. I remember there was an attraction that involed the audience sitting around a huge glass cylinder with a monster inside of it. You were strapped into your seats as though a roller coaster, but the seats were bolted firmly to the floor. You hear the scientists talking about the creature thay've created/discovered and how proud they were. Suddenly the lights go out and the monster has escaped.

That's all I can remember about the attraction, and I can't seem to find anything about it on the website. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Actually, that sounds like an attraction at the Magic Kingdom. it was callere Extra Terrorestrial Encounter. it had to do with a new teleportation device and by mistake the transfere this creature to the room where you are seated. it breaks free and most of the action takes place in the dark. if this sounds familiar, then this must be it.

too bad that ride is gone. it was replaced by stitch's great escape.

You are describing Alien Encounter, which was in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom of Disneyworld. Thank goodness the "powers-that-be" at Disney realized that this was not the best attraction, and have since revamped Alien Encounter with "Stitch's Great Escape." It uses practically the same technology as Alien Encounter did, but the big scary alien has been replaced with Stitch, from Lilo and Stitch. It's still a little hokey, but it is kind of amusing (I don't want to give anything away). Let's just say, Stitch likes to be a little naughty.

ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter

It was replaced by Stitch's Great Escape (which sucks in comparison to that ride). But now they do have a game based on the ride at DisneyQuest at Downtown Disney.
