Since I moved to london, I have really seen the Royals in a different light, i.e the way the roads get closed for them to pass with ease and so on. I wish we were like the French and got rid of them and like the Americans good enough to have a country with out them, what do you think?

I think they are an insult to the British people.
Why are the British considered too backward and untrustworthy to elect their own Head of State.
Especially when British troops are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq so that those nations can elect their own Head of State.

They close the roads for football hooligans to pass where I am from. Anyway I think the royals are past their sell by date,we should call them the purlley king and queen and give them a market stall on clapham market to sell all that royal Junk, I did buy a fridge magnet for my friend from NZ very tacky really abit like them. When I was travelling abroad somewhere, The queen there lived in a mud Hut, it was a nice mudhut compaired to the rest and people were still curious to go and see the queen, she even made some mint tea over a charcoal thing for visitors and they loved it. You see it doesn't matter if you live in a palace or a hut people still want to see for themselves so I guess if they do end up on old age pension, people will still be curious, It would also save us a hell of alot of money.

You obviously don't get out much. I live in Canada and go to London three or five times a year. I have always been impressed with how little disruption the Royals do cause to daily life. I have watched Prince Philip drive himself through London. I have seen how traffic at Trafalgar Square stops for less than a minute for a royal limo to roll through the streets.

Over here, just for the Prime Minister to come to town, there's an absurd amount of security. This week President Bush flew to Ottawa for a summit. I was flying from Edmonton - that 2,000 miles and one time zone away - and my flight cancelled because the air space in Central Canada had to close down because Air Force One was coming to Canada. Hundreds of flights of cancelled or delayed and tens of thousands of people's travel plans were affected because he was flying in.

Don't hang your beef on the royals. Every two-bit politician gets traffic stopped, roads closed, airspace shut down.

Lots of people turned out for the Queen's Golden Jubilee and when the Queen Mother died. Both really brought our country together.

I don't have a problem with them. It's better than having a President Gordon Brown.

Keep the Queen, Prince Charles, Andrew, Edward, William, Edwards wife, Princess Anne etc, but throw out the ones with little claim or no claim to the throne.

Keep them. Even if you got rid of the king and queen, there are Dukes, Earls, Ladies, Duchessess and other titles that are part of the fabric of England. You can't get rid of the royalty without completely tearing apart the fabirc of one part of English society. They have kept it that long, why stop now?

You people say i know they give us a lot of tourism but thats it. YOU ARE SO WRONG! They employ thousands of people, they bring in millions to the economy with the taxes they pay and the buissnessies they run. They also give us a national figurehead and something to believe in.

Get rid of the whole royal family.
What do they do for us? Nothing.
Who pays for them? We do.
Royalty has no place in a modern society, and NO they do NOT have any political stance whatsoever.

Its just like the pound.... the royalists who are in charge are so far up the monarchs backside to change anything.

Instead of being jealous, I think you must consider the ancedents this matter from pragmatic angles i.e. their contribution to the welfare of human society.Had you been born in the royal family, would you have bothered to stopped enjoying such protocols? Americans lost two of their Presidents for not providing them due protocol.
