The Mustang... it has more horsepower and torque the 0-60 times and 1/4 mile times are better. The GTP is actually fairly slow... 6.8 seconds in 0-60 and 15.1 in the 1/4 mile... I think I could probably hit that in my Jeep.

Stock for stock , yes the mustang would win 0-60 6.3 and 1/4
in the very high 14's . But the GTP can be modified rather cheaply and the gains are more substancial on a supercharged car . Front wheel drive would be the GTP's major downfall , I believe if Pontiac made it rear wheel drive it would have been faster than the mustang in stock form .

The Mustang will walk away from the GTP. The GTP is a low 15 second car while the Mustang GT is a low 14 second car. Seriously, it won't even be close.

It all depends on what tweaking was done the the grand prix. My uncle has a grand prix GTP that he has tweaked to the point that he could easily beat a mustang GT. He did get a little pedal happy and decide to try his luck with a GTO and just got embarrassed.

Don't listen to those guys stock for stock even race GTP automatic vs mustang 5 speed. My GTP was modified and I raced my cousin all night 10 passes at Kansas Speedway His Mustang GT after he figured out just how much clutch slip was necessary almost got to my front fender. After the Cam shaft and engine porting my GTP made 13.8 second passes in the 1/4 mile so front wheel drive with lots of weight over the front wheels ais not all that slow. How about racing my new Pontiac GTO?

Mustang GT, easy. Higher HP, higher torque, RWD....This pontiac would have an easier time with a pre 99 Mustang GT

Which ever one has the lighter driver will probably win. They're so close in performance it's not even funny.
