Has anyone ever attended VSU or heard things about this university? How is the gay/lesbian community there (i'm lesbian)? Tell me some things, I'm taking this college into consideration...

VSU is a nice school, but I have not observed an active GLB community. I would like to point out that, in spite of what one of the above posters inferred, the GLB community is not hunted down by rednecks with torches and pitchforks. What most people term conservative is just "laid back." The GLB community here is not as flamboyant as New York City or the left coast. It is what it is and it has it's own flavor and distinction.

On the up side, just 20 minutes north of VSU in Petersburg is VCU in Richmond. VCU does have an active GLB community. You do not have to attend classes there to participate. Drive north, pick up a few fliers on campus, off of Grace Street, Cary Town (Babe's Rest.), or in the Fan and hopefully that will put you in contact with some GLB groups in the area.

Good luck!

A great resource for finding gay friendly colleges is the Advocate College Guide. It tells you the top 50 most gay friendly colleges in the US

The Princeton review also does an annual evaluation on gay friendly colleges.

Honestly, any state college in Virginia will have quite a large population of homophobic people who will give you a very hard time. (It's amazing and unfortunate how much youthful zeal can go into hating people.)

So, I would strongly suggest NOT going there. I hope I've been helpful.
