PC is a derogatory term used by some people who don't like being held accountable for their words and actions. There is a lot of privilege in this world, and those who are called to the carpet on it like to fling this term like poo at people who challenge their assumptions.
I have always been accused of being PC in life when I speak up against obvious racist, xenophobic, or sexist remarks, including calling people all the terms that are blocked by YA when we post. Rather than change themselves, people prefer to label those who confront them.

PC and good manners are totally different. Being PC is doing everything in a way that wont upset anyone in the world, good manners and politeness sometimes clash with being PC.

Because it isn't a substitute for good manners, it is much more sinister and broader in scope than that. It is a political tool designed to control your thoughts and behaviour.
Examples might be, nurses are no longer allowed (health & safety) to remove the lids from hot food supplied to patients. ( might burn themselves) It's OK for patients to burn themselves though. Also, If you want to debate immigration, you might be accused of racism. Many words, formally regarded as part of normal speech have been banned because they allegedly offend someone.
There are countless similar examples covering a broader spectrum all coming under the head of political correctness. It is much broader in scope than your question implies, and I think mainly developed from, feminism, the race industry, homosexual lobby, health & safety, sex education Government nannying etc.
Good manners always operated at the personal level, whereas much of PC has been imposed top down and supported by Government and their supporting left wing acolytes.

political correctness has nothing to do with good manners,it is a system of required/demanded behaviour imposed on the rest of us by a vociferous minority.in other words, it takes away freedom of speech from all people, and freedom of action. It is normally used as a weapon of submission against people acting in a normal everyday manner culturally. It could be said, that, taking it to it,s extremes, different languages and religions are politically incorrect.this of ,of course ,will never come about, mankind needs to fight,it,s in his nature.

Political correctness is another way of forcing people to conform. In other words...Never mind what is truly right...we want you to do what WE (the politicians) think is right so that others who are watching will see us doing these things and think good of us.

It is political in the sense that it is being said to foster goodwill from someone you wish to have positive dealings with.
Not necessarily because you agree but because society has agreed that whatever it is, it is the least offensive, most descriptive term.
