I've met some traditional catholics, and it seems to me that they're living in a completely different world. I'm talking about the catholics who don't follow the current hierarchy of the Catholic Church. They practice the catholic faith of how it was before the changes from the Second Vatican Council. To me they seem a bit looney and not with the times. (dress, fashion, way of talking, etc.) Some of these types of catholics don't even believe the current pope is a pope and elect their pope. And my god ... they have HUGE families! Families of 15 to 20! Why are these types of catholics so weird?

Ummm I dunno, I'm a Catholic, but I fit none of those descriptions...
Maybe just another case of generalization???

I'm a Catholic and yeah I agree these Catholics do sound weird and very old fashioned I have heard that you can go to mass which is said in latin I know there is a church in Edinburgh where I live where the mass is said in latin. To me going to mass said in latin would be really weird and foreign and probably scare me off and never want to return. To every single Catholic around the world the Pope who ever he is. To us he is Gods representative on Earth and he has been chosen for a purpose and he guides us and leads us. That to me is who the Pope is. These Catholics cannot pick and choose their own Popes he has already been elected and is living in Rome. And yes it is not unusual for ANY Catholic family to have huge families especially before the invention of contraception but to catholics contraception is against our religion thats why you have such huge families. My question would be if you had such a huge family of 13 or 14 other siblings how can you afford to feed and clothe them and pay bills and taxes on top of that.

I am NOT aware that there are these types of catholics... However, what I DO know is that CATHOLICS are known for their "freewill"... Meaning, doctrines, teachings, and practices are thought in school & in the church but the members ( catholics) were also given the liberty to do what they want to do --- FREEWILL.
In some other religions, dress code in going to church is strictly observed. Like women are not allowed to wear jeans or that women has to be wearing dress... Or in some other religion wherein the sitting arrangement inside the church is pre-arranged. Whereas, in catholic church you can sit anywhere, arrived anytime, wear anything decent.
At the end of the day, what is important is your personal relationship with God.

Weird is in the eye of the beholder. There are many places where large families are not uncommon (though rarer that they used to be). Most religions eventually develop off-shoots or sects. Most of the time it is due to an unwillingness to follow the latest teachings of the church which may vary greatly from earlier teachings. It is not such a weird thing to resist change.
I am not sure why this seems to upset you, but you should be willing to at least accept that not all people or religions are the same. I am sure there are probably plenty of people who think your religious practices, whatever they are, are weird too.

no longer all "trads" are unusual ... nor do even a majority of them have self assurance that there is any problems with the papacy. The transformations that have been mandated by using the 2d Vatican Council have been stable reforms that have been later poorly carried out, ensuing in a selection of of detrimental consequences ... first between them the present toddler abuse scandals by using a small yet very unfavorable type of corrupt clergymen and bishops. while issues do no longer circulate as they must, real Catholics revert to the age previous practice of evaluating the "2 witnesses" of scripture and sacred custom with reducing-element teachings and practices. If the reducing-element stuff does not tournament up, then they understand this is time for some intense reform ... and the 1st situation Catholics start to reform is their own families. basically then they look at what should be completed with the the remainder of the church ... and that's only properly. the present pope replaced into thoroughly in touch interior the 2d Vatican council complaints, and he performed an incredibly considerable function interior the church over the final 40 very turbulent years, yet via fact the beginning up of his papacy, he has been no longer basically an incredibly stable instructor, yet a uniter of all Catholics, as properly ... which includes the "trads" ... who have been in all probability the gang that replaced into maximum severely impacted by using the submit Vatican II fiasco. And at an analogous time as having great families might look "countercultural" immediately ... and it truthfully is ... do no longer knock it until eventually you have tried it. huge Catholic families are the countless maximum loving and entirely useful families you're probable to locate ... via fact Jesus, as properly via fact the only church he ever based ... keeps to be firmly on the midsection of those families. If this is wierd, then so be it!

there are a few schismatic Catholics out there, such as the Old Catholic Church, the American Catholic Church, the Holy Catholic Church, and a few others. They have the outward appearance of being Catholic, but they are not in communion with the Bishop of Rome.

you must not be catholic...nor am I. do you not know that the catholics can do whatever they want as long as they confess their sins to the priest (the middleman) to God. they have no individual accountability. unlike Baptists, who are able to speak directly to God and ask for forgiveness. I know several Catholics and they all have to believe the Pope is infallible. and they do. it is the upbringing.
