The way your question is worded, it could mean two things. Are you asking if it's okay for a 42-year-old who has no children, and no desire to have children, to have them anyway? Or do you mean, is it all right for a 42-year-old to have no children and have no desire to have them?

If it's the first meaning, then I would say it's best to know your limits. Parenting is not easy, and while lots of people end up being great parents despite not planning on having kids (or not having them yet, or with a certain person, etc.), if someone is certain about not wanting them, it's best if they don't go against their feelings and have kids anyway, especially if it's to make someone else happy.

And if it's the second meaning, then, yes, it's okay to not want children. Be at peace with that, know what your strengths are, and find other ways that you can grow, express love, and contribute to society (because that's what parenting is all about, even though a lot of people start out thinking it's all just booties and blankies).

Hope this helps!

I am more than fine with the idea of anyone including myself not having any kids. There are already enough people on this planet. And I could not bear to think about putting a child in this world. I hope I do not get criticized for this...but they are not gifts from God...they are not miraculous they just do not appear out of nowhere. It takes two to make one not just one. I love kids...other peoples kids because I do not have to live with them. People that have an excessive amount of kids and then say that they are gifts from god...that is just a cop out. A way for them to feel good about over populating this planet.

Yes, it is. If you are wanting the children and not he, then you need to be honest with the relationship and leave it. People work better at a relationship when they are like-minded in their decisions. Call him selfish, but it IS his choice.

I know many. I think these people know what they want and not afraid after it. They understand that they have a choice. Child free by choice is getting very popular, search the web you will see it. nothing wrong with it at all. after all, i think those people are pretty smart.

not only is it ok, its to be respected, many women have children for all the wrong reasons, by accident, pressure from family/spouses, and even society, you have made a decision, and following through with it, admirable,

Absolutely. Research has found that having children doesn't necessarily bring happiness.

if that is how you feel great so make sure if you get involved with someone you need to tell them up front about how you feel about family and they had best be same or you will have to go

Absolutely - not everyone wants them, nor should people feel pressured because of their preferences either way.
