I could never ever kill anyone really...
But I could kill that SOB easily. With my bare hands. In front of his mother. On mothers day. On national tv. With billy graham begging me to stop.

The death penalty is the ONLY way Americans think that all killers should be "corrected" and yes John Evander Couey committed a very heinous crime. But here's what needs to be done in this case - our criminal justice system is very much "fractured". This being the case we need to start comprehensive reform for what we have. The American people have been "educated" by politicians (that do not read or understand what experts say in regard to the corrections process - they simply want to get elected or keep their seat in public office) that we need to be "tough on crime" but it isn't working. Our way of dealing with criminals doesn't reduce the crime rate and it doesn't bring to an end to recidivism - it does bring about retribution and revenge - that's it, nothing more. It DOESN'T even provide for true justice! This being said, we need a criminal justice system that does not let a single prisoner out of prison "early" because of overcrowding. Our system is prosecuting the wrong crimes. We prosecute heavily for drug crimes and let out pedophiles - Why do we do that? Drug crimes are basically crimes where they are pretty much "victimless" - people choose to take the drugs - it isn't forced up their veins and noses or stomach - it is a conscious choice. If they took the "crime" out of drug crimes then there would be more prison space to keep the pedophiles. Offenders such as John Evander Couey DO NOT get better with treatment and rehabilitation - they just continue what they do because pedophilia is a "condition" if you will, that is incurable. In other words - they continue to hurt people - and our CJ system is there to protect people from getting hurt! It failed Jessica Lundsford and it failed Nicole Brown Simpson, Ronald Lyle Goldman, and every single victim where a killer just walked away.
As for this case, the death penalty does not get to the core of the problem - John Evander Couey was arrested, tried and convicted on the courthouse steps - the media did that. Even with the DNA that the prosecution had and all the evidence, the death penalty will never provide justice for Jessica Lundsford. Couey should be removed from solitary confinement and put in the general population of the prison. I'd like to see just how long he lasts in the general population of the prison. The offenders there WOULD offer justice and it would be more heinous than a lethal injection could ever provide!

First off,
At one time many people were wrongly accused, before DNA etc. However times have changed many of those who were convicted before DNA evidence have been set free. So the day of truly innocent people getting arrested for heinous crimes have dropped if not entirely diminish. Jurors want the DNA proof, so it's beyond the shade of a doubt.
Anyone who is guilty of committing sexual acts on a child should automatically face the death penalty. It's been proven time and time again that a sexually predator can not be rehabbed. Why throw them and jail and release them so they can do it all over again.
Had Couey received the death penalty the first time that beautiful little girl would still be alive today.

Evagaline15 the death penalty IS the solution. This case is a commercial for the death penalty. You can argue deterrence all day with me; I do not care it there is a deterrent value in it or not.
Couey will never rape and bury another little girl alive
McVeigh will never blow up another Federal building again killing 168.
Stafford will never kill 6 teenagers and an Airman and his family again.
That media darling Tookie will never again blow the face off of a hotel clerk
Gacy will not rape and bury scores of young men anymore.
The death penalty decided that for them; it was the solution.
Do not even lecture me about life in prison. The minute they instituted that option the same people who hate the death penalty stepped forward and cried excessive punishment.
And why should hardworking underpaid correctional officers have to deal with a bunch of murderous thugs with nothing to lose. Why should a pot dealer and a car thief have to live their lives next a McVeigh or a Couey.
There is also the possibility of escape. I was in Huntsville Texas when two death penalty inmates escaped. Thank God and the Concealed Carry Pistol laws I was not scared. If they would have came at me they would have gotten their death penalty a little early.
Couey is the poster boy and the death penalty is the solution.

You know what has completely amazed me, though it shouldn't I guess in this day and age, but that guy had such a rap sheet....what the article say? String of burlgaries and exposing himself to a young child. He is the epitome of the fact that you can not change career criminals, and you can not change child molesters/predators, and they need to be locked up/warehoused away for life. They will not get better...and it's so sad that some young girl had to suffer the way she did. I wish our country/legal system would wake up and smell the friggin coffee.....
And yes, he should fry for what he did. Time to bring Ole' Sparky back for this one, and maybe we'll get luck and he'll malfunction again and drag out the execution in a very painful way.

nicely ... in accordance to what you wrote here it does not be self protection ... Connor observed the assailant after he left the scene. If this had truthfully exceeded off I doubt there could be any penal complex time for Connor. dwindled ability by way of his age and positioned up worrying rigidity syndrome could make this a case that could desire to be dealt with via psychological wellness experts, no longer corrections officers.

When the writing is on the wall I don't even think there is a need for a judge and jury. Like when you catch the guy on the 7 Eleven camera shooting the clerk in the head. Just take him out back behind the jail and put a bullet in his head. It would save a lot of money, time and effort.

I kept up with that story, I think he deserves the death penalty and they do not need to leave him on death row for years before they do it. I think in this case it needs to be like out patient treatment, go to prison, get the death treatment and carried out.

It will be a short term solution...Jessica suffered and was tortured..so, why give him an easy way out...when he could spend all life in prison being tormented and torture for what he did...
Very good analysis Mary W!!!

So 20 years and $10,000,000.00 from now, we'll finally fry this turd. It would be better just to sentence him to life and then turn him loose in the general prison population. He'll be dead within a year and it will certainly cost the taxpayer a lot less.

i remember this- it breaks my heart! the guy is incurable due to damage from drug use and never getting help- in this case the death penalty doesn't bother me. normally i'm against it. but a lot of child predators ask to be killed or locked up because they "can't control the urges" and it's like they're possessed.
