try this:

an hour before going to bed, three or four drops of an essential oil on a small piece of bread (or a sugarlump). try lavender, orange or linden oil. these are NOT aids to sleep, but simply help you to relax

then prepare a warm drimk - herbal or fruit tea sweetened with chestnut honey is fine. let it brew while you......

take a bath (fairly hot). put about 1 lb (1/2 kg) of sea salt in the water and relax with a good book for 20-25 minutes

drink the herb or fruit tea and then wander off to bed.

after the first two or three nights, remember to switch o the alarm clock!!!!!

Not to sound like a hippy but there is marijuana. Of course that clearly does have some side effects such as being high as well as not being overly fantastic for your lungs. Honestly though, and I really don't want to sound like a pothead, but if you make hash brownies (pot mixed into brownies, you can find the recipe online) you won't polute your lungs. The brownies can be enjoyable to eat obviously, and then for maybe 4 hours or so you will be high. You will have no anxiety during that time, and even after the high wears off, you will still be very relaxed and calm for many hours. You might even be able to get a doctor's permission for pot if you don't want to be illegal about it. I hope this helps.

After going through the above list of medicines surely
you would be confused which to select, therefore I don't
want to add my choice of herbs - instead I would suggest
a yogic mudra which is called as VAYU MUDRA. It is also
referred as Vaayu-shaamak mudra which decreases the
air element within the body. This reduction of air
1. sedates restless and anxious mind
2. calms overcharged nervous system
3. pacified overactive endocrine glands
4. relaxes tense or spastic muscles
etc., etc., therefore stress, anxiety, irritability, impatience,
restlessness etc., can be tackled by doing Vayu Mudra.
This mudra is performed by first placing the tip of the
index finger on the base of the thumb and then bringing
gentle pressure of the thumb upon this finger. Other 3
fingers are kept straight with palms facing upward.
Perform with both the hands and keep it on their respective
thighs while watching tv. taking care not to handle the
remote control. Starting with 5 minutes you have to reach
a target of 45 minutes. This works with absolute no
side effects. Best of luck.

Omega-3 oils. I use Barlean's (excellent brand) - both fish oil and flaxseed oil capsules. The fish oil doesn't smell or taste fishy - in fact it tastes kind of orange-y. They fish oil especially calms me down in about an hour, if I take two capsules (2000 mg). The side effects? Low blood pressure, improved memory and great skin!

Be careful about St. John's Wort and valerian. I've tried both - St. John's Wort works well for a lot of people, but for me it made me almost psychotic. Valerian made me feel like a zombie, but it DID reduce the anxiety. I wouldn't use either again, but they make work better for you.

Put a few drops of Valerian extract (liquid form) into a cup of herbal tea. It tastes like old socks but it will help you. You have to read the label on OTC "natural" antianxiety remedies - sometimes the active ingredient is alcohol! Not that alcohol isn't natural, but if it's in there you should be aware of that!

For sleep, I take melatonin tablets at night with warm milk.

Valerian Root will help to reduce anxiety. Sometimes it can make you feel kind of sleepy so start at a low dose and see what it does for you.
