the earth won't be crushed! eventually (in billions of years) the sun will reach a stage in its life where it expands so much that it engulfs our entire planet. we'll all die out way before then though, either by flood, running out of resources, disease, and mainly the fact that the sun is too close for us to survive--it would be too hot.
