To avoid you spraying loads of chemicals around, which will not only harm the spiders, but you as well, you can get this essential oil called citronella, it repels spiders and other insects (i saw this on 'how clean is your house!') you may be able to get it in spray form.
If not, id say just buy the little essentail oil, get a small amount of water, add some of the oil to it, then use a damp cloth and wipe around everywhere you can, like corners wherever you see the most spiders!
The smell will repel them.

I live next to the woods and we get some BIG hairy spiders here.. For the most part they stay outside... However, if you get ORTHO-HOME DEFENSE spray and spray the inside/outside perimeter of your home the spiders will stay away.. For the spiders that are already in the home.. You can purchase indoor foggers.. Just follow the instructions and leave the house and put the pets outside in a safe place or take them with you for the afternoon.... I also vacuum them up with my wand attachments if I see them... Good luck....

I encourage spiders in my flat because they keep the insects down. Why not use similar biological control and get a pet that preys on spiders? This link might give you some ideas.

I've cracked this one. I hate spiders too! I bought a pair of plug-in insect repellers. They work by sending an electro-magnetic field through the house wiring which all insects and rodents cannot stand.
If you are in a two storey house, plug one in upstairs and one downstairs.
You can get them for £19.99 for two from Homebase, etc.
These are a wonderful invention. I never get any spiders, woodlice, earwigs, mice etc.

Buy a spray called "Home Defense" and read the directions. It will kill any insect and when used indoors, it can keep them away for up to a year. When it drys, it's safe for animals and people. I use this stuff and it really does work. It will cost around $15.00 a gallon.
