I have been traveling alone since I was 18 myself, mostly in Europe because that is where I live.

If you are sensible about it you would be safe enough, but traveling alone is something you need to learn.
There is only a small step between being alone and being lonely. And when you are lonely you might want to join the wrong people just not to be alone.

For a short travel (say up to two weeks,) traveling alone is no problem at all, but if you are planning a long trip, consider how easily you make friends and how good you are in being alone.

And consider what you love doing, if you like sight seeing, going to museums and so, being alone is OK, but if you like to go partying, want to experience the fact that it is legal to drink at 18, or try even wilder things, it will be better not to travel alone. In that case it is better to travel with a tour group, where many others have the same interests.

If you travel alone, use hostels, as that is the kind of place where it is the easiest to get in contact with other people traveling.
Even when you get private rooms, the common area is a good space to meet up with people to go sightseeing or into town to get a drink.
And meals in a hostel are almost never eaten alone, as there are always other people making their own dinner or also eating what the hostel offers.
(Do not watch that movie hostel, like you would not watch a movie with a plane crash to see what flying it like. Most of what happens in the movie is fantasy, not reality.)

I hope this information makes some sense to you.
Whatever you decide, have fun.

i would say its not safe for anyone to travel alone anywhere. especially an 18 year old girl, think about all the things that could happen to you. it would be safer if you went on a tour with a company the whole way through, and i cant really imagine traveling alone to be much fun either

Safer than travelling alone in the USA. Other than Muslims immigrants in Europe, there is a very low crime rate there... but if you see an Islamic mob coming after you in Europe -- RUN!

I'd recommend going on an under 30's contiki tour. They are HEAPS of fun and you will be a whole lot safer. Plus you meet lots of new people, see all the sites and you don't have to worry about anything apart from having a good time and getting your *** back on the bus in the morning!
Have fun

Can be, but I'd reccomend just trying to stay away from con-artists, there could be many in Europe.

I stay on my own in distant places countries provided that 18, so i could say "risk-free while you're careful". right here is my suggestion: decide on hostels with sturdy comments on trip consultant or comparable web pages. extra helpful in the event that they're in the city centre/touristy places, and accesible by employing bus or taxi. save nutrition on your room and dont bypass out at night. Dont tell human beings the place you reside, bypass out with them purely in crowded places. Be extra suitable careful in bus/prepare stations and dont commute late. consistently enable somebody be responsive to the place you're, or supply your mothers and dads your commute plan in develop. Dont refer to strangers. Dont carry a marvelous style of money with you. placed on "first rate" outfits. Have a city map/subway plan with you. hear on your instinct. save your telephone charged. eu emergency style is 112. merely take care and you'd be nice! :)
