How can people suggest that you can't be liberal and a Christian? How can people judge someone based on a sliver of their real life posed here online. I am a proud Christian and a liberal. How can you tell me that I am not truly a beleiver when you do not know me? I know conservatives that are atheists. What about them. There are no ignorant answers about them online, so give Christian liberals a break and show us some common decency.

A true Christian American would be against forcing their own religious beliefs on someone else. Actually in this case, it would be forcing their beliefs on a woman. Not just someone else.
A true Christian American would be someone couseling others about options before the need for an abortion.
A true Christian American would consider that though the best thing to prevent pregnancies would be abstinence, that isn't always going to happen. We need to educate everyone on other options available.
A true Christian American would/should consider the following questions:
Are you fighting to the health insurance companies to pay for ALL birth control options, like they pay for Viagra?
Are you out there trying to get the networks to advertise condoms, like they advertise Viagra and ED solutions?
Are you out there talking to the kids and telling them don't have sex and then walking away from them assuming they will listen to you and will do exactly what you say? Or are you giving them all the options?
Are you out there telling men that maybe they need take some responsibility for their actions as well? It can't happen without the men. As people like to tell women to keep their legs crossed, how about guys keeping it in their pants?
I would not chose abortion as an answer for me if I were to get pregnant, except maybe if it were a case of incest or rape, and then I would want ALL options available to me.
What would happen if a certain religious group decided that birth control should be illegal and they started a movement to make that a law? I've heard it from several friends who have 2 or 3 kids, and though having kids outside of marriage is against their Church, it seems they are more against birth control than having kids.

I do agree.
Online forums are where there is a complete protection against someone knowing who you really are. So this allows poeple to take extreme views that they wouldnt normally take if talking to their family, friends, and co-workers. Society makes us more compromising than if we werent talking face to face.
Real Christians would talk to others in the tones that they do regardless of whether we dont know who they are. Real Christians ensure that they live their own life to Gods wishes and try to lead by example and peace, and peaceful language. In the online world some who think that they are holier than though must take a militant stand against things they believe to be wrong.
Also, admittibly, it is less interesting to read these posts when everyone agrees.
As for abortion - it is never mentioned in the bible, it is a modern invention that we must deal with as a society. In 30+ years of democratically elected officials, representing the majority of Americans, it hasnt been overturned - and the US is more conservative than most industrialized countries. Something to be said for "what you hold true on earth, I will hold true in heaven".
I would never do it, but I wouldnt ever tell a fellow american that they cant, it is their right by our democratic laws. If your in the minority, get use to it and shut up. If your warped by conservative opinion polls showing that the majority want it abolished - learn to research yourself instead of being spoon-fed propoganda - any opinion poll can be twisted. Results are the only thing that matter. Make yourself smarter by reading a variety of information rather than what you only agree with to begin with.
Name calling is a sign of a weak argument.

What you need to understand is that the so called "Christian Right" fundamentalists, who have a strong alliance to Zionism, are just as dangerous as the fundamentalist militant Muslims. For you and I the difference is that at this point you and I are merely an annoyance, not their enemy. I'm not a liberal but rather a moderate or "centrist" but I am also a Christian. If you get a chance check out the reruns of CNN series "God's Warriors"

Its part of the log in ones eye versus the splinter in another's. No party nor political ideology meets the criteria of being a Christian. This is an individual belief. Simply look at the litany of scandals that plagued both parties at one time or another. Some on the right side of the isle have been told that they are the gate keepers to Christianity. Unfortunately, some actually believed it. If anything, Christianity is apolitical.

Yeah you're right! There are plenty of raveing atheist conservatives out there. I'd say nearly every stage 4 drunk member of the masonic lodge, the nuclear industry, most of the drunk politicians and CEO's.
But then if you only pick on the powerful that leaves out the frustrated wannabe conservatives. They still think they can get power by makeing refference to the authority of God and religion. That's the small town guy who takes opportunity at every public meeting to make people pray with him. Most of them don't want to. Squirming in their seats are former special forces guys who dropped in behind borders illegally and shot up entire villiages. Squirming in their seats are scientists who think too much , see too much .
The only good christian is one who is anti war. If they aren't against the wars then they are conservative even if they don't think so because they beleive in use of force to secure material wealth- my definition of a conservative .
To steal or not to steal that is the question.
So if the Iraqis are not humans then is it OK to steal from them ? How about the people of Venezuela or Nigeria?

I dont know. Killing children. promoting homosexuality, trying to force a secular way of life down the peoples throats, continually attacking Christianity. You know basically supporting countless policies that are contrary to your faith and which will ensure the persecution and death of millions of Christians. I cant imagine why any Christian would suggest that thats somehow incompatible with Christianity

I don't see a conflict between being a liberal with strong religious beliefs. I do see a conflict between people who profess strong religious beliefs who support abortion. I consider myself a conservative (actually, more libertarian) who views abortion as a individual decision and not really my business. I personally find abortion to be an egregious solution to individual irresponsibility.

Liberals will argue that conservatives don't follow the teachings of Jesus concerning the poor and sick, conservatives will argue that liberals don't follow the teaching of Jesus concerning gays and abortion.
Both have truths to them, and they will never cease to exist.
As an atheist, it's just a ruse in my book.
