No, I don't agree ... and I do agree with the first three answers.
First , a point of correction ... it is the melting of the south pole ice cap that would cause the seas to rise, as this is ice atop land ... the north pole icecap is floating, so if that ice melts it would not raise the ocean levels.)
A second point is that I don't think even the most dour of global warming predictions includes a total melting of the polar ice caps. But there is no doubt that the polar ice is melting and the seas are rising. (See source.)
But to answer your question, if the south pole icecap were to melt completely, it is estimated that would raise the sea levels by about 60 meters. (See source.) Other landlocked ice (such as Greenland) could contribute another 7 or 8 meters. That would mean that all coastal cities up to about 220 feet of elevation would literally be underwater. That would, over several decades, cause huge numbers of human deaths (mostly in the form of increasingly devastating hurricanes), and potentially billions of people displaced (as a large amount of the human population lives in coastal cities).
But even then, that would not cause total human extinction.

By poles, I am guessing you mean the artic and antartic circle. In that case, I disagree with your statement. Complete melting of the poles will drown all the coastal areas and kill hundreds of milllions of people, but the human race will easily survive.
P.S. BTW, the people of Poland are also called Poles and they have been annihilated several times in the history, yet they still exist and the human race still exists.

I agree with Amar D. In fact Russia and the United States are rushing to stake claims on oil deposits in both Artic regions that will be more accessible if there is no ice. So the burnining of fossil fuels will continue and the rise in CO2 levels will continue to climb.

No, I don't agree. There will be wars over the dwindling space where people can still live and the population will have to drastically decrease either by starvation or killing each other for remaining resourses. But there will continue to be smaller populations that may have to survive without the internet and other modern conveniences.
