Here in about a few weeks or so, the drive up Mt. Evans is going to be spectacular (the highest paved road in North America!). The weather will cool off a touch and the aspens will be changing. Stop at Echo Lake for lunch and a walk, or maybe a little fishing (pack jackets just in case). Great way to spend a day that is not too far out of town.

Outside of Denver (but not that far) are many roads labeled "Scenic Byways" that are usually fantastic with mountain and canyon scenery. One of the closest is Hwy 119-74-7 which is the "Peak-to-Peak Hwy" north of Blackhawk up to Estes Park. Also the Mt. Evans Road, only open through Labor Day.
Another very scenic drive close to Denver is over Lookout Mountain above Golden. Great view of the city and plains below.

You need to get out of the city if you really want scenic. An easy way is just take I-70 right up to the mountains. Or Head up to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain NP. If you have to stay in Denver, try driving down Monaco st from Montview to 6th ave and the west on 6th ave. Older homes, lots of trees, it's very pretty, but only about 1/2 hour drive.

i did a colorado loop some years in the past and it replaced into large!! night a million , stay in denver--day after today head north approximately ninety miles to rocky Mountain nat'l park--from there i headed southwest in the direction of Gunnison and Black Canyob nat'l park..then i endured on in the direction of durango (you are able to as properly make an element trip to Telluride which i strongly recoomed).on a similar time as in that section you will tension the sought after Million dollar highway and pass a gaggle of warm springs (Ouray has a public warm spring pool)..then paintings your way in the direction of Pagosa Springs which even have large hotsprings and decrease back up north in the direction of denver-- you are able to stop at Gran Sand Dunes monument and Pikes top in colorado springs alongside the way...this might make a large 6 day loop and you will see the ideal of colorado
