he just lies at the bottom and has red stains through his skin :(

That sounds like ammonia poisening
do a waterchange of 50% right away and test your ammonia as well, the reading is suppose to be at "0"

The tank is too cold probably, up the temp. Or he has ick. So heat and medicate. Best of luck!

red streaking could be hemmorgagic septicemia. fish store can sell you meds for it.
