Ecclesiasticus says, "And some there be which have no memorial, who are buried as though they had never been. Their bodies are buried in peace, but their name lives forever." The life and death of each person matters. It is ultimately of no consequence whatever that anyone knows or doesn't know of the death since death is a commonality all share. A man does not live to himself alone, he leaves a shadow or an imprint, at the very least a name that others mention. We are all part of the web of being, the sum of humanity.

Of course his life mattered. I am sure there were people he touched everyday and he didn't even realize it.

The devil would say "Score one!", however, he says that at least 2 times per second, so it really doesn't matter.
