Good question.

A Haunted House is scary because you're surrounded by four walls and can feel trapped. Where do you run to?

A Haunted Hayride is scary because you have no walls for any kind of protection. You have no chance at hiding all you have is wide open space. Lots of places to run but nowhere to hide.

I've never been on a haunted hayride. I have been to many real haunted houses though. And those are pretty scary. Even some of the fake ones have been scary. I'd almost have to go with Haunted House.

At one time I would have said the Haunted House, but after seeing "The Children of the Corn" years ago, well...there's just something about hayrides at night through cold fields that, well you get the idea (ps I'm 55)

They both can be scary, but a Haunted House puts you in close quarters, so you feel like you can't escape. That's what usually adds to the "terror" factor, making it scarier than a hayride that's moving (even though theoretically you can jump off and run away).

a haunted house. i feel like the hayride is moving so nothing can really attack you because you are riding away. in a haunted house things can pop out from any direction and chase you down. personally, i hate haunted houses because i find them so scary. however, in my area of new york there is place, the headless horseman's hayride and apparently it is the most terrifying halloween event in the tristate area (or so i am told).

The hay ride, if you have people under the hay. Other wise the haunted house. But I've never really been scared of either much, except haunted houses that are actually decorated school rooms.
