So what if you don't want to wave a flag or a t-shirt that says MEXICAN with an arrow pointing up. You don't have to prove to anyone how you feel about your heritage, if you like the US and its culture then good for you. I think a lot of immigrants have this conflict. But you know nothing first hand of your country, so why would you be waving a Mexican flag?

I don't think it's a shame for you not to want to go to Mexico and live. Your basically an American, but I do think your wrong in not being proud of your heritage. Just because Mexico is what it is now should not make you ashame, and you should never follow generalizations no matter what it pertains to. There is a lot of history with Mexico that is very fascinating and very good. Just because it's the way it is now has nothing to do with the past. Instead of going on what you hear now and how badly it sucks, maybe you should open your mind to the history of Mexico and some of the people from history that were born and raised in Mexico. Just because you have some people there that make it look bad doesn't mean everyone there is the same. Don't you think there are people in Mexico that want a better country for their kids and families, and for themselves? Don't be so quick to judge. Besides, America is not all cracked up to what you think. We aren't the best country around in my opinion. We have our flaws just like any other country. And God knows were one of the most racist countries there is. Is that anything to be proud of??? No it isn't. I'm a black female and I was born in the United States so yes I'm proud to be an American to a certain degree because after all this is where I was born. But my ancestors come from Africa, Italy, and I have a lot of Native American in my family. I'm very proud of all these. And, I'm truly proud of my African Ancestry because it has so much history as well as the Native American Ancestry. Read up information on Mexico's history and it's people from back then, and I'm very sure you will be proud to know that you come from this country.

Be proud of being Mexican! It's your heritage! I mean, I'd rather live in the US than live in Jamaica, where my family is from, because the US is where I was born and raised, and there's nothing wrong with that. But I'll proudly wear that flag, and I'll proudly wear things that say Jamaica on them. Don't let other people influence the way you feel about your background, because at the end of the day, it's your family, and your family is part of YOU.
I don't think you're ashamed of being Mexican, so much as you're cautious about shouting it out to everyone--and rightfully so, with this heated Immigration Debate, and the emphasis on Mexican immigration. I can imagine how you must feel. But you're an American now, too, and you have the right to embrace your own culture.
And if people either close to or far from you have a problem with that, then just tell them to buzz off! If they can't accept you for who you are, then they're obviously not your real friends.

I think you feel a bit guilty at the moment,by not liking being Mexican, but remember you are A Mexican.Blood is thicker than water. One day you will appreciate you background and maybe even you will be proud of who you are.It is great that you love America, basically its your country and you grew up there, but still do not be ashamed by your origins. Its not cool to be ashamed by your birthplace. Of course its okay for you to love America because its you home, you grew up here and you happy.still at least respect the fact that you have something special about yourself, you were born in Mexico, how great is that. Its part of who you are,you can't change that!

If you are living in America, why not call yourself "Mexican American".
You should be proud of your heritage because it is what makes you, you.
But don't be so prideful that you think you are above others.
We are all equal in the sight of God.
I am glad America is so culturally diverse. America is the melting pot of the world, and the most successful, because our people are truly free. Even the poorest people in our country are much richer than the poor in other countries.
People who have come over as poor from other countries , have become rich for what they have to offer.
And America is better and stronger for it!
Just remember, get naturalized, pay your taxes and make America, (your home) stronger.

Be true to yourself. You sound like you have your' head screwed on straight. You wouldn't be the first immigrant who loved the US for the opportunity it afforded them to live a more prosperous and liberty filled life. If you really see your identity as being first an American citizen who happens to be of Mexican blood rather than as a Mexican American who would rather be first associated with your country of origin, then go ahead. It may not make you very popular in some Mexican American circles, but you might be surprised to find that there are others who feel the same as you do.

You should be proud to be Mexican but there is nothing wrong with thinking that America is better since you have been here since you were 3.
Also have you even been to Mexico? If not then you can't really judge if it sucks or not.

no of course not. if you are an american now then that's what you should show your pride in. like i told a girl on here earlier there is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage as well as supporting your nation. the reason people immigrate to another country is because they obviously had a problem with the one they were in. if you loved mexico and were that proud of your nation you never would have left. and one of the great things about the usa is that we don't force you to show your pride in either. you can be proud of wichever culture you feel most comfortable with. so yes it's perfectly fine to show your pride in this great nation.

You should be proud to call yourself a american citizen without having to wear a mexican cap or shirt or wave a flag around. I'm pretty sure people can look at you and tell you're mexican.

You can't control where you are from and no you don't have to be proud of the place you came from. You should be proud of the person you are, no matter what your nationality is. It's also fine to be proud of what you love. If you love the United States then be proud to live here and love the country you live in.
