I just want to make sure we are talking about the same thing. You are talking about the jewelry armoires that are between 4 and 5 feet tall, with doors that open like a closet, and they have hooks and ring rolls and stuff, right? They usually have a mirror someplace, too, so you can see while you put your stuff on. Stuff like this?

I have seen them from time to time at furniture stores. It's always the big ones that have furniture for every room of the house, and I have always seen them in the bedrooms area. I don't see them all the time, though. I sort of think they have gone out of style, maybe, because I used to see them more often than I do now. You could also try finding a place which sells cedar chests, like hope chests, as those are a traditionally female gift, and a store that has them might have jewelry armoires, as well.
You could also try someplace like Bed, Bath and Beyond, just because they have so many storage solution items, but I really doubt they will have one, just because I go there fairly regularly, and I don't remember seeing one.
I do see them all the time in catalogs, but would you believe I cannot think of one catalog that has them now that you need to know? I know you don't want to order off the internet, but if you could get one of the catalogs, you could do a mail in order on a form, which isn't the same as ordering on the internet.
I do know two times of the year when I see them a lot more: around Mother's Day and around Christmas. I actually saw them at someplace like Target or K-Mart last year at Christmas time. Since that's an item that is more geared toward women, those are the logical times for them to be available.
My best advice is to search the internet for the term "jewelry armoire". See if you can find a site which also has brick and mortar stores in your area, or see if there's a manufacturer which is a big general furniture manufacturer. You might be able to go to a furniture store and have them order one for you if you know they carry other items from that maker, and you have the model numbers and stuff.
Best of luck in finding one!

I believe that J.C. Penneys and Walmart carry jewelry wardrobes around Christmas time. I am sure other department stores do as well. This seems to be a big Christmas type item for stores. Good luck!

You mean a jewelry armoire ~ If you can't find one at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, or Target, try looking for them at the higher up department stores like Sears or Marshall Fields. You'll likely pay more for them there, unfortunately.. Otherwise, might I suggest that you wait until the cheaper department stores stock them for the Christmas holiday. Or better still, put one on your Christmas list. :-D Good luck!

To some extent this is a seasonal item, like manicure sets. Department stores stock them mostly for Christmas gift giving, and they are much harder to find at other times of the year.

Most of the time, the jewelry boxes this size are seasonal items at Mother's Day and Christmas. I was lucky enough to receive one from mom for my birthday in September. She found it at Walmart.

They are called jewelry armories. Most department stores carry them.
I don't know if I would consider them to be human sized....hmm
Have a good night.
