Small town, used to go skating with a church group twice a month--hung out at a little soda fountain in town--or at the bar in the pool room, used to play pool with my friends uncle when I was 8 I could whip most of the men in town--mom was a bartender there and my friends parents owned the bar. Had the old skates with a key and one pair of heavy shoes to wear when I skated on the sidewalks or behind my friend being towed with a rope. Used to take my kids skating every Sunday and skate with them. almost started skating again and thought better of it--I don't fall often but was afraid if I did I would stay there. ha! good memories--thanks.

Hung out at the school yard up the street from our house.
Played baseball with all the kids in the neighborhood, Watched the older teenagers, play basketball. Lived literally on my roller skates,(the ones with a key), so I did not have to go to the roller skating rink. The hills around where I lived (San Francisco) where more fun. Yes , Lilabner, I too was considering roller skating again, even bought a pair of Sketchers 4 wheel skates. But then I got to thinking that if I fell,
I would probably break a hip, my arm or leg, and gave up that pursuit.

I hung out mostly at the billiards because there were some characters there that made us laugh. The roller rink or bowling alley was not a very popular place for us, usually we played hockey outside or go to the rink.

The roller rink! I loved skating and the best part, dusting off my backside from falling! LOL! I wasn't that good but, I loved trying!

I had a pair of sidewalk skates when I was very young and my Dad thought I was suicidal at five as I would roll down the driveway, into the street, with my eyes shut! LOL! What a dumb thing to do. He put an abrupt halt to this and made sure that I got in a night or, two, at the local roller skating place!

I was all about the skating rink. We would go and hang out for hours. There was a phase where the bowling alley was cool too. In high school, we hung out at an ice skating rink which is a little odd since I live in the deep south.

There was a bus that would pick up all the kids in the towns on the way to the roller rink every Saturday night. It was 25 - 30 miles away. We had so much fun on the bus as well as skating. It was always dark on the bus going home. That was the most fun for me. :-)

I got my social security card at eleven years old and started working on a truck farm, that was the end of my childhood. Then it was a theater and then a janitorial service, I met my wife on a city bus also going on a job from school.

There were a lot of us inner city kids that didn't have a teen age life, we had to work to help the family. I went into the service at seventeen, then Viet Nam. I grew up fast but, not on roller skates.
