When monsoon season starts( wherever monsoon conditions occur) the winds blow in the same direction for months together.But, the rainy season associated with the monsoons is the outstanding feature of the climate of these regions.Hence the term "the monsoon' generally refers to the rains rather than winds.
During the onset of the monsoon in India, sometimes cloud burst occurs causing floods.
So,in fact the monsoon wind brings a lot of moisture to India thereby bringing the expected rains after the hot summer to enable agricultural operations.As far as India is concerned, peninsular India would have become a desert without monsoon winds.
