There is irony in your question...because you've asked for the "perfect poem"...as if poetry could ever be "perfect"...and say that you want the poem to be about love and not wanting to lose it...as if there were a "perfect love"...and the irony here is that just as there is no perfect poem, there is no perfect love...both are beautiful and transient...which is why they can be both tragic and beautiful at the same time. You keep your love by nurturing it, realizing that it is never perfect and always needs tending...just like any poem that always need editing...no matter how good it looks today.

Because love is something never owned, here is a poem that goes in that direction:

Nature’s Laws

The willow doesn’t weep, it bends
It bows to Earth by Nature’s laws
And so it is that I am drawn to you
You are the center of my universe
And unlike something strange, perverse
It is the most natural thing to do

The river doesn’t wander, it wends
Around the hills by Nature’s laws
And so it is that I return to you
From travels that take me far away
We’re never apart, though it seems that way
And there’s little else that I can do

True love doesn’t give, it lends
Its faithful devotion by Nature’s laws
And so it is that I love you
With a depth beyond description by word
And a totality of being that’s almost absurd
For it’s what my soul was meant to do…

In accordance with Nature’s laws

The poem that says all the things that YOU feel, is inside you. YOU have to write it otherwise it will be what someone else feels. Poetry is something that comes from the heart...find what's in YOUR heart...and write it. You might find the "perfect poem" you hope to find, is in YOU. It might take awhile to find it and put it into words...but try. Make it personal. Make it REAL. Just a suggestion.

"It is only with the heart, that one sees rightly. What is essential, is invisible to the eye." The Little Prince

Think about it.
