When he wants, needs, or expects something from you, deny him everything until he gets his act together. For him to dump you must mean that there is something more important than you and unless it's an absolute family emergency or a job, he has no excuse.

Ignore it!!! Just act as if it didn't bother you and you had a good time anyway. He knows he did wrong and it will bug the hell out of him if you just act as if it was nothing.
