C Level Executive in (insert boring industry here). Most likely a CFO, as they are more subtle/conservative in personality, and it sounds like that's what you are looking for. Some ideas for boring industries: Financial, Manufacturing and/or Packaging...actually you could make it something that would be ironic with your character if that's not too distracting...dunno. That would typically be a guy's job, and maybe the mom could be a writer, who writes under a pseudonym, so she doesn't have to reveal who she is.... It also depends on how rich they need to be, and what kids of personalities you want them to have... They could also be day traders, real estate investors - maybe engineers or scientists who patent their ideas and sell their IP (Intellectual Property). They could have inheritted money or won the lottery. They could own a relatively decent sized regional business, like a delivery or transportation company, produce and/or beverge distributors, own several franchises like Hallmark, McDonalds, etc... Hope that helps!

The most common occupation I see in stories with this description is lawyer, but if you want no chance of being famous at all, a lot of computer programmers can get rich.

How about a doctor or a lawyer? If you choose the right doctor, you may end up with more money. Being a lawyer can pay you to at least $100 per hour and a doctor $300 per hour.

LOL I just talked to a friend of mine who told me about this gate guard to a trucking terminal within a large city. You see, my friend is a truck driver, and in order for him to deliver loads into this 40 dock terminal, he, and every other driver, would have to pay this guard $50 a pop in order to be let through the gate so they could deliver their loads...or they could wait 8hours and chance getting their trailers broken into in the mean time. 40X50=2000...and a truck can unload in an hour. That guard easily brought in 4Gs a night, CASH. The $50 charge was considered a S.O.P.(standard operating proceedure).

I think your charactor's father owns an architectural company that specializes in ultra modern high rise buildings. The Mom is a partner in a corporate law office that may even represent the husbands company.
