I know, I've mentioned this before. But the thumbs down routine makes no sense. Maybe the original idea made sense to somebody, but the way most people use it makes no sense, and is a useless gesture.

Thumbs down, I meant to write.

Well, I never read other answers before I answer a question, but I did on this one, and I can say that I never use an answer as a rebuttal to someone else's answer. (I might edit in a comment for that, but not in the original answer.)

I know they don't seem to be counted, but it does make me feel good when one of you gives me a thumbs up; as if what I said did reach some like minded person out there in the ether.

Thumbs down never make me feel bad, because I decide that if they didn't like my answer that probably I wouldn't value their opinion anyway. I only give thumbs down to answers with obvious erroneous information or prejudicial content, or if they have a stupid name. (joking!!)

There are a lot of really young, immature people on here who post a question knowing what answer they want just to prove that they are "right". I think you'll probably notice that a lot of times there is only one thumbs down - often the asker when you have the nerve to tell them you don't agree with them.

I give thumbs both ways and for me it means strongly agree or strongly disagree.

But these aren't accumulated any where that I can see so they don't seem to have much (if any) value. So I agree with the others who answered. No big deal one way or other.

I've wondered if it's their way of saying they were here, like the old Kilroy was here of World War II. So many times it appears to be because they disagree with all the answers but they can't formulate a rebuttal so they just thumbs down and go on.

Some people have nothing better to do at night or before school then to go around thumbing down answers just for the heck of it. TROLLS....I say ignore them. They shrivel up and die after awhile.

hahaha that's funny, all these answers got thumbs down!
its just because someone didn't like someone else's opinion.
i think it'd be great if Y!A showed who gave them. then people wouldn't be so flippant about giving them.
