File a motion in court that you cannot appear on the date of the hearing so that another date will be set.

What a minute , you got served ? A date should be on the papers,, Ex Parte is a very important thing , you will have to show up or you will lose the child period,, If it was already served, you have to show up, it not up to you to request a hearing ,, The heaing is set or should be !!?
re read the papers ,, Ex Parte is a fast action to remove the child from your care ,, so I would think you should call the court and ask when the hearing is and you better show up ,, Dont ask for a motion to change , I dont think you can ,,

It depends entirely on your county. Google your county and court or state and court, they should have a website. At very minimum forms, but could have detailed descriptions of divorce proceedings. Good luck!
