a couple of times I even had to wiggle the wire to get it to start. I ended up replacing the battery because my car would not start at all, but when I replaced it with a new one the light still flashed. Could it be my alternator???

As far as i'm concerned you should not have replaced the battery. It DOES sound like the alternator or as i like to call it the AC generator. My advice to you is put the old battery in and replace the alternator. It sounds to me like it's not charging. Or not charging properly. That's why your light keeps coming on and off.

Losing charge or possibly a lose wire, or corrosion(most likely the battery). The battery could also be on it's last leg. Have it checked at a parts store. They will usually do it for free hoping that you will purchase anything you need from them.

Give your self 10 points and take it in to the shop before you get stuck out in the middle of nowhere. Intermittent electrical problems can't be fixed online, you have to test everything and you don't to fry the system if you don't know what your doing.

Yes, either your alternator or a bad electrical connection somewhere in the system

It's a BMW and wants you to take it to it's dealer so he can charge you BIG bucks for repairs.

It would be definitely your alternator starting to weak.. Service it, or later you will have to change it..
