I guess she figures if she gets to know you, there will be less of a chance of you trying to get the ex back. And wouldn't you be able to tell her all sorts of things about her new boyfriend. This is not the norm to me. I am not interested in befriending any of my exes girlfriends.

Two of my guys women wanted to be friends with me. No there are still places where that is not the deal. They sent gifts. I think there is a little libido tweaking going on.
