Why does the explanation have to be supernatural? Why does the supernatural cause have to be a human spirit? How do you "know" you have a female spirit at work here?
This appears to be another example of, just like with "ghost hunters", everything out of the ordinary is automatically assumed to have a supernatural cause.

When it gets hot out, the piping in the house gets condensation on it, which can accumulate in certain areas and drip through the ceiling tiles. Also, if it was raining, then the water could be working itself through leaks in the roof.
I would suspect if it was raining, you would have thought leaky roof, so my money is on the condensation.
I suspect you will find pipes above the areas where the water dripped.
More than likely the female ghost is imagined, but I do not have enough details to tell you for sure. However about 90% of ghosts can be attributed to hypnogogic hallucinations which occur while drifting off to sleep or when extremely tired, the type of tire people get when very stressed or staying up several nights.

There could be many causes for water to be left behind by a spirit. It could have been the means to the spirits death such as a drowing, a boating accident, etc. It may also be a sign of something that is to come.
If it happens at specific times or dates that may be another clue to find out what is behind it or why. This may just be the only way that the spirit has found you pay attention to. Try being more open to other communication.

my guess is that it's probably not a ghost. Your husbands pants and the sheet under the comforter were wet? Maybe he had a wet dream or pees in his sleep. It would be kind of like a sleep walker, but he's a sleep peer.

The personality of the spirit leaving it's former existence is the same as spirit in subspace. These ghosts are in subspace, another plain which exists with our reality. It cannot be seen with the naked eye. The spirit entering this reality keeps their personality from their former existence. They let one know they are there by making noises, moving furniture, odor, and manifesting themselves before us.
