Look for an outlet with a GFI. It will have a couple of buttons between the upper and lower outlet. One button will be labeled "test" and the orher "reset". A surge during a storm could trip the Ground Fault circuit. Depressing the "reset" button will restore the circuit. These are most commonly found in kitchens, baths and outdoors as they are electrical code requirements for wet areas. Many times there will only be one for the house and it will control all the outlets in the required areas. It may even be located in one of your outdoor or garage outlets. If you don't find one, look at your breaker box to see of there is a GFI equipped breaker in there.

It is possible that a nearby lightning strike has caused some damage to the electrical utility serving your area. Check with your immediate neighbors to see if they are experiencing the same problrem before you do anything else. If they are, then just report the problem to the power company. They will locate the problem on their lines and repair it. PS if you have an electric stove you might notice if you turn it on the outlets suddenly appear to work. Though this would not be good for the stove so don't leave it on. In fact, don't use your clothes dryer either (If it is electric) until the problem is repaired.

It sounds like you need an electrician with a meter. Give one a call. The electric company will check the power at the meter for free to see if everything is ok on their end.

Did you wiggle all the breakers that might have been associated with the area in question? Some breakers don't look tripped but actually are. if that doesn't work call your power company and ask them to come look at it.

you need to check for an open ground,
go buy one of those little red/ yellow . testers
cost about $9 at Lowe's,
this will tell you whats up with your wires, or ground
if this doesn't help call in a pro
