They are a real college. They are the community college division of the University of Phoenix which is also a real college.

They are regionally accredited which makes them at least as credible as other regionally accredited schools but their parent UoP doesn't have such a wonderful reputation as an institution of academic rigor.

US News and World Reports places them in the category of "International, specialized, and other institutions, unranked" which means we can't use USNWR as a source for any ranking information. UoP has a student body of over a quarter million students according to USNWR.

They are a proprietary college (run for profit) and owned by Apollo Group (NASDAQ APOL) and they are one of few that make no bones (or apologies) about operating with a profit motive.

The bottom line is that, while they are legitimate, their reputation is not amongst the highest colleges but they are certainly not the lowest out there either.

Many people think that the move to Axia College is a marketing tactic called "the name game" and is intended to separate that customer base from the UoP name and therefor draw some more customers. That's not a bad thing from your perspective.

There are also many people who will tell you that you can find more cost effective (cheaper) online programs. They are very correct, this school is expensive by most standards in their class.

I'm a strong supporter of online education and I own stock in this company; even so, that you're asking this question implies that you need to examine your choice and possibly explore other options. Generally speaking, classes you take at Axia will transfer to other regionally accredited colleges.

I haven't taken classes from Axia College, but I did earn my master's degree online from Nova Southeastern University in Florida. Online classes are more challenging and require a tremendous amount of discipline. I feel that I learned more that way because I was pretty much dependent on myself in researching the solutions as opposed to having a teacher who provides an immediate response when having the face-to-face interaction. In addition, by being able to complete the program online, I was able to maintain a full-time job and fulfill my duties as a mom and wife. Good luck! :-)
