The military has tried madison avenue.PR and bullshit has not sold well either. What failed their efforts was the reality people see it on the web. They cannot just make more and more war movies.
They have bigger problems . 25 % of all US kids are unable to learn due to mercury vaccines and low birth weights. Then when you give them an additional 16 innoculations at boot camp what do you think happens?
So- they dumped all these traumatised and injured people on the PRIVATE sector! These reservists don't have any medical care.
Local governments, hospitals and folks all around are telling them to pull their own weight medically. To do that it has to be the draft. And frankly only the draft is fair. By lottery rich or poor, whites, blacks asians latinos indians all of them- by lottery. Ivey league guys too. No more vietnam bullshit where only blue collar and poor have to endure war.
We don't need any royalty like Bush.
The contractors are getting shot up too. That bull has to stop - privatised war is a huge mistake .
More bad ideas from the losers we have in charge these days: Rumsfield, Cheney ,think tanks and corporations. What a disaster !Especially for men with families jobs and marriages. Send young men not those who are anchors in our communities holding responsibilities .
Sending anyone to die for plastic bottles, pesticide and gasoline is stupid. It's stupid because we can do it some other way.
Plant trees not bodies!
I hated the draft during Viet Nam I still hate it but the way it is now is a classic bait and switch operation. It's unethical and just plain wrong.

I did register for Selective Service as soon as I turned 18. It was the tail end of Reagan's second term. Wars were minor distractions and only lasted a few days at most-not a big deal to register. Hell, I would have been surprised if they needed me to fight. It was the age of "Rambo."

As for the draft, I have mixed opinions on that. National service in any form, from serving in the military to working at the Social Security office to building safer bridges on U.S. highways is a very good thing. Compelling people to put this country first might teach some of these young kids the value of hard work and hopefully some responsibility. It seemed to work quite well before the Vietnam War when a large percentage of young men had to serve 2 years in the military.

However; war is certainly no game and is best left to the professionals.

Here's an idea, require the draft and start with those who are related to a Congressman or Senator.

The draft is not being considered by anyone. It would be political suicide for any politician to vote to reinstate the draft. Enlistment rates are on target and reenlistment ates are at an all time high.

The draft talk is used to scare the sheep for political gain. The only politician who has ever discussed the draft is Charles Rangel. He is a blowhard who was trying to make an anti war statement i.e. trying to turn the public against the war by making them fear the draft. However the sneaky Republicans put it up for a vote and Rangel himself voted against it. Rangel was pissed; how dare they shine the light on the cockroaches.

There is no draft in the immediate future; it is just plain not needed.

I registered when I was 18 and served as a Marine.

Are you seriously naive enough to believe that you can post an ignorant statement like that without being challenged? Who is considering the draft? Where did you get that information? Do you have data to support the claim that enlistment rates are down? What about reenlistment rates?

Of course I registered at 18, it is the law for males.

Historically, the draft was always the solution for low enlistment rates. Consider it just part of the price you pay for living in a free country. Freedom ain't free, you know. Requires sacrifice, vigilance and dedication to maintain. If you doubt me, check the history of any nation or government that tried to survive on its own merit without the support of the very people who prospered in it.

I never was for doing away with the draft, not only because we need to have people trained to protect our country but also because it helped alot of people grow up once they got away from mom and dad who spoiled them and made them weak minded.

So many of the young people think life is one big party and are totally irresponsible ~ let them go through Boot Camp and spend some time in the service so they can learn some responsibility and respect for authority figures.

Honestly a war as unpopular as this and they want a draft. 70% give or take are against this war and they wanna move that up a couple points. Some of the supporters don't want themselves or their children forced to fight either. I did register for selective service though i would opt for concietuous objector right now and would be exempted also as a college student.

I am a veteran, completely against it. The main reason I am against it is the large number of people I served with that just couldn't handle it...they did what ever they had to in order to get kicked out, and that was an all volunteer force.
I believe it would be a horrible mistake that would lead to complications that are completely unforeseeable.

I am laughing at all you young people that turned up your noses at politics and voting. You are getting what you deserve.
