Better not to add more weight to a boat. Find a solvent for the glue on the carpet that is on the fiberglass. It would not do well anyway.

No, it will not stick to the old carpet. It's fairly simple to rip the old carpet up and glue the new carpet down. The new carpet will last for years so you might as well do it right the first time.

The second layer carpet will not stick to weathered carpet. To do it right and also make it look first class you'll need to remove the carpet on there now before putting new down.......George

It's not recomended. If you use mineral turps or eucalyptus oil to help release the old glue it will help. Wash down with metholated spirits or acetone before aplying the new glue.

It might be a lot more work but worth it in the long run to rip out the old first. If not you might be lookin at doing it again in a year.

Probably won't last long because, it won't stick properly, why do it twice ? just take it out, not that hard, you'll be glad that you did !

I don't see why not, if you think you can do, and do it well enough for it to be satisfying, then go for it!!!
