Does anyone see strange little lights zooming around in the western sky tonight? I live in a suburb of Chicago, and if you haven't seen these strange lights, go out and look way up towards the west! Let me know if you see them too!!!

These lights are twirling and swirling around, up, down, circles, etc. They are teeny tiny and off in the distance, but CLEARLY they are bright little lights. They are like nothing you have ever seen. Please go out and look before you answer the question.

There were meteor showers that should have occurred this week so that is probably what you saw; a normal event.

The comet Swift-Tuttle comes by the Earth every August causing the Perseid Meteor Shower, but that was two weeks ago.

Meteors; falling stars, are more common than you think according to the History Channel a meteor hits the earth every 4 hours. That is a shooting star that survives atmosphere entry and strikes the ground. Most of them are the size of a football or less. We are hit a lot and a good look at the moon will confirm that.

In 2026 the asteroid Apophis will come so close to the earth that it will be under our weather satellites. There is a 1 in 35,000 chance that it could take a very narrow orbit and come back and hit the earth in 2036. If it does then that will be the biggest falling star ever recorded by man. It could be close to the same one that killed off the dinosaurs.

You mean "shooting" stars right? Stars don't really fly seeing as they can't propel themselves with anything because they give off heat and energy, or anything even remotely close to thrust, evenly over their entire surface.
