If you like the name go with the name. It is your child not theirs. They got to name you and you name your child that is how it works.

I love the name.
It sounds like you have a very controlling family. It really isn't their business what you name your child. - unless you ask them opinion. Even then it is up to you. As a family they need to just not open their mouths and be so rude. If you don't set boundries on their control it will just get worse.
Just nicely say..Thanks for your opinion, but we love the name Maverick and we have heard your opinions, but we still want the name and lets just leave it at that. Having a baby is such a joyful time.....lets not ruin it by being negitive about our choice.

It's your baby, you can name your child whatever you want. I'm just glad to hear it's not Jake or Aidan.... (I'm assuming this is for a boy, but if not, I still think it's awesome!)
I was considering adding the name to my "list" but it's actually on the top 1,000 names on the social security website for 2006. I think it's around 500...? I just personally refuse to use a name that's in the top 1000.... but that's just me.
Anyway - I say go for it! This is also why I don't think any family or friends should know the name of the baby until they are born. Too much interference!
Also - if you DO use the name, don't let people try calling him Rick..... Nicknames suck!

Ok to all of those who say it is your baby so go for it I say this..... a baby's name is not just a cute label for when they are young. A persons name follows them where ever they go and it is the first thing many people find out about a person before they meet them. First impressions are everything. Maverick is cute but its not for a grown man. Your family is thinking of the road ahead while you are thinking of a cute little 6 month old with such a adventurous name.

name him Maverick. It's your baby, not your families' baby. We never had that problem, sounds horrible. This is your decision, well, you and your hubbys', and your family doesn't have a choice on this one. I know i sound harsh, i'm not coming at it like that at all. I personally think that Maverick is a really cool name. It's not common, and that's what I go for. Anyway, good luck and God Bless.

You tell your family "wow good thing we are the ones having this baby and not you because we get to name him and we love the name Maverick"! I think it is a kind a cute name. You will find no matter what you pick someone won't like it so pick what you like.

Well this is your baby right????? your family can oppose the name until they are blue in the face, but they will not be the ones up at all hours of the night and being mommy and daddy for the rest of thier lives...... so i'd say you name your baby what you want!!! they dont have to approve. What matters is that you and your hubby agree on the name, because that's hard enough!!! you can't please everybody

you should name your child what you want. it is your child and if you love that name and they restrict you from naming your child what you want, it will always be a sore spot in your heart. Tell them that they can give him a nickname that they will be able to call him if they choose not to call him Maverick. Or suggest, if it is ok with you, that they can pick out the middle name. or just tell them that it's your kid

Consider giving the name as a middle name? But in the end, it's your child, do what you want. Specially if both you AND your husband like the name.

Tell them it is you and your husbands baby and that it is your choice NOT there's. My mother in law tried doing the same thing I told her just like this Well it is Bobs and my baby so that would make it our decision but thank you for the insight. She shut up right quick. But she is a buttinsky anyway, someone has to put her back in her place cause her only son and child won't.

it's your baby so you should name him Maverick. But if they really don't want to call him that, they can call him Rick or Ricky,or if you don't have a middle name picked,maybe they could help with it and call him that. Hopefully,you can come to some kind of compromise.
