I heard a strange noise outside of my home. It sounded like something hit our house, but we looked outside and we found no evidence of enything falling or something hitting something...what do you think it is

The most common cause is a bird flying into a closed window. Usually the bird is just stunned and flies away again within a minute.

It COULD have been an earthquake, especially if you're in California.

I live in a mobile home, and when an earthquake hits, its as though someone bumped into my house with a car -- just a sudden noise and jolt, then nothing more. If the quake is small enough, I get only the noise -- no jolt.

many possiblities: sonic boom - earthquake - expansion of wood joints in the walls or ceiling - a ball that bounced away - a passing car with a boom-box - an animal that made contact with the house

How big was it? Maybe it was a bat, and then it flew away.
