Pollution!

I live in a rural area, very small town. The sky only becomes orange at night here when there is a forest fire near with smoke blowing our way.

Or

If we have an "inversion"** for several days during the winter when people are heating their homes with fire wood.

** An inversion is a weather phenomenon that occurs in valleys. Warm air is trapped under a layer of cool air. That is why Los Angeles often has such terrible smog.

The sky is orange at night sometimes because of the sun light shining off of the clouds from the other side of the earth from an angle.

Do you mean after sunset? Obviously, a sunset can cause the sky to be orange. The glow of city lights, perhaps; also, pollution will sometimes give an orange hue. Then there is the borealis...
