I have this little fish, and i have no idea what it is

sorry, but I don't have any pictures

Ok, so its about 1 inch long, from nose to tail, its flat, its mouth is kinda facing upwords where it looks like hes frowning all the time, he is silver, a dorsal fin covering most of his back, its kind of ovalish shaped...more round at the face then pointed near the tail

Also, can this fish live in a 3 gallon tank with a betta fish, or with my goldfish in the 20 gallon tank

He used to live in a 10 gallon tank with guppies, but if you read my guppie question you know they all died, and my parents won't let me keep that tank out for 1 fish, so he either lives with the betta or goldfish

he is in with the betta right now, and they get along fine, the betta wasn't to happy about it in the beginning, but now its fine

SO, what kind of fish do you think it is?

this fish is really flat, like the size of 2 nickles held together

Sounds like a skirted tetra or a little like a sand dollar. If the betta is getting along with the fish I would just leave it in there. I am pretty sure it (the unknown fish) and the betta will be fine in the same tank.

Hello again Shelby, I can't help you specifically with identifying this fish but all your repeated posts indicate you're facing a huge uphill struggle trying to care for your fishes within your parents guidelines.

Maybe if you were to show them some of these replies you have had to your problems as well as some fish keeping sites they may be more willing to relax their rules once they know you are simply trying to follow correct procedures. I'm sure they wouldn't want to be knowingly contributing to the suffering of your pets & if they understood about what you needed to do to keep them all healthy they may be more willing to relent.

Best of luck to you & your fish.

That could be a few things from the description.

Try these:

silver dollar tetra: http://www.elmersaquarium.com/10silverdollar.htm

piranha: http://www.fishlore.com/Profiles-Piranha.htm

pacu: http://www.elmersaquarium.com/10pacu.htm

I don't think it would be a hatchet, because the dorsal should be shorter (and there would be two), but here's what these would look like: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1015

It may also be some other type of tetra, or a very young rainbowfish.

i would say its a hatchet fish or danio. if you put them both in the ten gallon they should get along even better and your parents would let u keep the tank. my parents just stay out, they come in my room see all the tanks, "ohhhh well... thats...nice..." then leave lol then sometimes complain, but never make me get rid of them

It might be a pihrana for all I know. Sorry, I've never heard of a fish like that. If it looks like this, then it is a pirhana. (My spelling is horrible, sorry...) http://www.anatomorphex.com/picts/aquatic/FS010_PIRANHA.jpg

hope i helped..
