i think atheists suffer from their own superiority and like to believe that they are the pinnacle of existence. this is what i see in the scientific community these days also. other atheists seem to come to a "logical conclusion" that a god couldn't exist. others just couldn't care less about whether or not god exists. i believe that atheists are consciously aware of there ignorance. but i don't think it bothers them.

I was tempted to make fun of your misspellings and grammar errors, but that is just too easy and doesn't REALLY answer your question. I think the world around us is full of wonders, and they mostly follow observable, measurable patterns that make up the basis of all sciences. Science is a beautiful attempt to know more about our world. It has nothing to do with atheism or non-atheism, except that as a person absorbs more and more knowledge and absolute truths, whether scientific or otherwise, they will tend to question more the subjective truths fed them by their religious training. For many, this only strengthens their faith. For others, it convinces them that their religious training was false and thus, since they can see the resemblances between all religions and their indoctrination processes, that all religions are false. The true ignorance lies in thinking that the narrow confines of one sect or another make a believer better than another person.

So you're looking for someone of the atheistic persuasion to come along and defend science, atheism, linear thinking, scientific proof, quantum physics, the source for the universe...? Thank you for assuming we can do so much.
When you say, "completely unknowable," do you mean like the federal tax code?
Quantum mechanics, intellectual, truth, observation, diety, phenomenon; admit it you big smarty pants you, you're reading a book aren't you? I heard about this once, when someone reads a book, an angel gets her wings.
You could have a doggone persuasive argument going here. All you need to persuade smart people is to throw terms at them, make fun of their thinking, and dis science right? And then lump them all together into one big generic description. It's always persuasive to lead an argument with, "Are Atheists just ignorant?"
Congratulations, you should be very proud.

Theists are just gullible and incapable of critical thinking.
I am wondering at the moment the average age when someone is told about mythical creatures and gods and how the gullible child laps up the fables and myths. An adult acting as a child is hardly something to be proud of.
After Inquisitions and wars of the religious, it isn't surprising that so many are so terrified to voice their disagreement. We know what happens to designated heretics. Theists are merely cowards failing to stand up and be counted.
I'm fine with the judgment of ignorant from those who are cowardly and gullible from those who are child-like. I tend not to let the things that 5 year olds get to me any way.

This science dude who came to our school to speak said that science is just trying to figure out how the world works, making reasonable guesses, and then testing the theory to see if it's true.
Hypotheses are thought to be true if they're tested again and again and the results fit the hypothesis. But they can always be disproved...just find one exception or flaw.
What I'm trying to say is...uhm, science doesn't make us think we know things, just...tells us that we can be pretty sure of things.
Anyway, you have some good points. Let me think about this.
My mom says I have to go to bed. I'll write more later. :D

I am with Angela. I believe people have been given free will to believe or disbelieve as they choose. However, I think it is incorrect and unfair for you to refer to ALL atheists as ignorant. Many have been quite intelligent people. I don't think they are trying to prove or disprove anything. I think they are just living their lives as they see fit. And they have every right to without any criticism from the religious right or anyone else. Live and let live hon - it's the only way this planet has a shot of making it through this century. Religion will be the reason this world destroys itself ... if we let it. Pax - C

Are atheists just ignorant or their ignorance?
Obviously you are a person who believes in god and intelligent design etc etc?
Well, until you can prove that their is a god or 'phenomenon of life' as you call it - i can safely say that science and aethists do have a good intellectual grounding for saying that religion is a complete load of rubbish.
Secondly, why should whatever created us be worthy of praising? I dont know about you, but i dont have all that much time on this planet to be worrying about going to church and giving money to a bunch of hypocrites who molest children and pray on people's fears.
Your question is so stupid i cant believe you asked it.

No, it's their own choice not to believe. They're not being ignorant, they're just doubtful by nature and are using their limited resources to come to a conclusion about the way the world works. You don't have to take it so personally.
I believe in God but I know others that don't and we never give each other a hard time about our personal beliefs.
If people are questioning the ways of the universe, they're only using the brains that God gave them. Personally, I think athiests have come to the wrong conclusion but their choice is their choice, after all.

If it weren't for the scientists of the world, we'd still be living in a flat earth society with the blinders of religion around us. Intellectual dishonesty, wishful thinking, superstitions, and all other forms of thinking that keep mankind mired in darkness, ignorance and hate are the characteristics of the brainwashed religious folk....

Sometimes they are - but it is better to be ignorant and sincerely seeking truth for oneself, than to be indoctrinated with other people's ideas of truth.
Your stuff about quantum mechanics and praiseworthy deities kinda undermines your question... since you're saying that we can't know this, we can't know that, can't know anything. I think that what you probably mean is just that, to insist that there is no god takes the same kind of hubris as insisting there is one (and is about as worthwhile), and what is worthwhile is to seek the kind of truth you can't insist on.
