The first thing you should do is to be come friends with a man and just get to know him - everything he like and doesn't like, etc. TRUST YOUR GUT INSTINCT!!!!!!! If for some reason a boy/man makes you uneasy in any way -get away from him and the situation.
Also what is his work ethic? Is he willing to work hard and not just quit when the going get rough? Work ethic is very important too.
Not all guys are jerks and they are not all angels either. I personally won't put up with anyone who doesn't let me have my freedom, doesn't trust me, or tells me who I can hang around with or what to think about a situation and doesn't respect MY OPINION. THESE THINGS SPELL T-R-O-U-B-L-E WITH A CAPITAL T.
Also be CHOOSY about who you date. You want to have someone who will treat you like a lady and with respect.
If you meet his parents, look at the way he talks to his mom. That in itself will indicate alot. If he says Yes Mam, No Mam, please and thank you then his parents have taught him that women are to be respected and revered.
If on the other hand, he treats his mom badly - RUN!!!!!!!!!
I hope that this is of some help.
I got really lucky when I had my husband as my boyfriend. He is kind, loving, works hard for a living and is fun to be around and makes me laugh. We will be married for 28 years in October!!!!

The best advice I can personally give is "Understanding The Difference Between Men And Women"

We soooooooooo misunderstand the difference! We are not clearly the same. The task that faces men and women is to learn to accept their differences, avoid taking their differences as personal attempts to frustrate each other, and to compromise whenever possible. The idea that one gender can think and feel like the other if they truly loved each is rather absurd. Sure, a man or women could act in consideration of the other’s needs, but this would not necessarily be rewarding and honest. Holding the benefit of another above our own is rewarding.

But from time to time, and more often for most of us, it is important to be our self and to be accepted, and not to be the source of distress and disappointment in the lives of people we love.

Hmm ... in case you like to establish how the male will handle you (as a ability date/better half) -- see how he treats his mom ... IF he's snotty, if he's curt, if he's verbally/mentally abusive (or disrespectful or something) -- then there is no way that he is going to handle you any in yet in a different way. appreciate your self and walk AWAY -- this male will ABUSE you for confident!

If you're attracted to bad boys, you will be in for a lot of grief. He won't change for you no matter what he says or what you do!

take things slow, don't smother them (keep your independence), make sure they give you the respect you deserve, find out how they treat their mother (that's usually a good sign of how they will treat you) .

Don't get married. They have *very* short interest expiration dates, and it's expensive to change them if you marry them.
