I used to love to watch the spooky shows (nowadays they don't have spooky shows, they have horror shows that are gory and gruesome).

I thought Boris Karloff made a very convincing "assembled" man; Bela Lugosi's eyes were piercing and hypnotic; and my favorite was the simple, plain-faced man who could be anybody, but usually a werewolf -- Lon Chaney.

Chuckaintsh## -- I had forgotten Peter Cushing and Richard Lee. Richard Lee is still around. Plays Suraman (sp?) in Lord of the Rings.

both Lon Chaney and his son, Lon Chaney Jr. were in movies...I suspect you are thinking about Lon Chaney Jr, play in the Werewolf movie, several other horror movies. His father was from the silent era, starred in the Hunchback of Notre Dame (Silent Movie). A very good bio film about Lon Chaney Sr, "The Man with a 1000 faces" starred James Cagney and Dorothy Malone.

Lon Chaney Jr. was the werewolf. I remember him from late night movies.

Lon Chaney Sr. was "the man of a thousand faces" and a bit before my time, but I have seen a number of his old silent films. The scene in "Phantom of the Opera" when he walks down those stairs in that "Masques of the Red Death" costume is one of my all time favorite movie scenes.

Both men portrayed their characters, who were usually offbeat or different, with respect and compassion.

James Cagney played Lon Chaney Sr. in a 1957 film "Man of a Thousand Faces." A number of youthful actors portray Creighton Chaney which was Lon Chaney Jr's real name. It is a very good movie.

Lon Chaney -- ah the man was awesome. where I am they are showing the Phantom of the Opera but no one knows which version, if it isn't with Mr. Chaney forget it -- he was the master in my personal opinion.
