We're going to Vegas in November and want to visit the Hoover Dam. I've seen SOOOO many different tours and can't find out which is best. Any previous experiences would be helpful.

Just get a rental car and drive there. Its only a 30 minute drive. Take any major road from the Strip East to RT-93 and follow that South to the Dam. The best you can do now is go to the visitor's center and drive or walk across the dam. They no longer give the tours to the bottom and into the turbine rooms and tunnels.

But its worth the trip. Then there are some tour companies that do a boat trip south downriver through Black canyon. Check these web sites:

There is no reason to book Hoover Dam or GC tours before you get to Las Vegas. You will find all kinds of tours with all kinds of discounts when you get there. Be warned, the traffic to Hoover Dam is a real mess. The terror alert and construction at the Dam have traffic backed up for 2-3 hours during the day. ~Jack~

I went on the bus tour 3 years ago. It went to Hoover Dam, Ethel M chocolate factory and the cactus gardens next to it.
We had a couple of hours at Hoover Dam and then another break at the chocolate factory. Very relaxing. Have fun, I love Vegas

I visited the Hoover Dam when I was in Las Vegas, I would suggest driving it is an easy drive and you can ask at the hotel you are staying at for directions.

Or you could just go to the Hoover Dam Visitors Center, and take their tour.

Rented car shall be the best way. It is a pleasant trip very near by. Go to reach there after 7 am .The towers on both side of the bridge indicate they are in two separate states - Nevada and Arizona. I went there in 1989 . Probably things have changed and they don't take people down. But the boating options in the lake are there. Enjoy yourself.

My experience was a disaster. We decided to drive there in person. Because it is considered a major target for terrorists they had a road block. They were inspecting all the cars for bombs. It took two hours to go the last five miles. By the time we got there we had to go back because we had a show to go to in the afternoon.
Take any tour bus and avoid the aggravation.

if you are renting a car go on your own. the tours are not cheap. plus the ride through the national park is great and you can stop and take photos. it is a great place to visit and enjoy.
but I would go on my own.
it is only 30-35 minutes east of downtown.

good buffet at Fiesta Station on the way out or way back.

I actually did do a tour, just drove out to it. It was fun because we drove on part of bridge and ended up in Arizona,so I have pics saying welcome to AZ. I got some many pictures.
