He's suspended indefinitely. That means its open ended and will last as long as they want, hopefully forever.

I run a "no kill" dog shelter at my expense & am surprised at the amount of venom directed toward Vick. The SPCA & a number of so called "animal protection" groups routinely kill pit bulls, for very little reason, except they are pit bulls. I rescue them & have found that even the ones that have fought tend to be well socialized & loving toward humans.
Unfortunately, some have been abused by humans & never recover from their mistrust of humans..
Dog breeders, & those that race them, routinely kill those that do not measure up to their standards. I do have to keep most pit bulls isolated from the other dogs because they are an aggressive breed... but I am in a rural area & can give them a 1/2 acre fenced area with their own house if need be.
Years ago I had to shoot several of my dogs when they reached the point in their lives where they were slowly dying... I still remember how hard that was.
I have known people in the same culture Vick was caught up in & it is something they were raised with. Most were poor blacks or latnios, with a smattering of poor whites, that saw nothing wrong with what they were doing. Vick has now been educated & we can use his education to help put the brakes on this type of behavior if we make proper use of him.
Chuckle, I'm white in case you wondered.

Technically, no. Indefinite means the time period is not known. He could be reinstated tomorrow.
Practically speaking, yes. Vick will spend at least one year in prison, and there's no reason to believe that the NFL will welcom him back as soon as he's released from prison.
In a few short years Michael will be just another 30 something year old and will have lost his skills to play the most demanding position in professional football.
His NFL career as a starting quarterback is over.
added: Perdidobums is right, this is the worst response Vick could have hoped for from the NFL. A lifetime ban could be fought against because he never admitted to actually gambling, but an indefinite suspension is almost unchallengeable. Plus, by not waiting for the sentencing, the Commish is saying that he strongly opposes Vick being an NFL player regardless of how many years he serves in prison. Vick will never play in the NFL again.

Give them time. The indictment just came down yesterday. He will get suspended soon. Federal Grand Juries do not hand down indictments over flimsy evidence, especially in a high profile case. Vick claims that it was "relatives who took advantage of his generosity" who used his farm for the breeding, training and fighting. Sorry, but Vick is no farmer, and he bought that place for one specific purpose. The evidence they have, including specific dates over the past 5 - 6 years, is overwhelming! He will plea bargain this out, but he will get suspended or banned. Besides, the Falcons were already considering moving him out of the QB role. They can't win with him as a QB.

he denied the gambling charges, but he is suspended indefinately from the NFL without pay, and they are going after his bonuses, and his team told him not to bother to show up for practice......I was on a jury once where this homeless guy leaned over the fence and stabbed the dog with a knife, cuz he knew the dog, since he knew the people, so the dog trusted him enuf to go up to the fence, then he let him out of the yard thru the gate, and the dog wasn't found until weeks later. Needless to say, we found him guilty and he got 3 years in prison.

This is the worst response Vick could have hoped for from the NFL in my opinion. They will simply wait and see what the court does and how long Vick has to spend in prison and go from there. I think he probably never plays again in the NFL but not because he will be suspended forever, just because his skills will be so diminished by the time he is allowed to play he won't be a viable player.

Michael Vick is suspended indefinitely meaning there is no definite time limit for his suspension. It means that after his penalty comes down he may be able to apply for immediate reinstatement. People do it in other walks of life. He should be afforded a second chance also.

Know they could lift the suspension at any time! BUT LIKE IT REALLY MATTERS THE CHANCE OF A TEAM ACTAULY SIGNING HIM ISNT GOOD. If he was too be on the falcaons soo many people would turn into falcon haters which means less cash! They derinated his contract, and so did nike. I doubt he will ever get another contract for anything!

Not forever; just till the furor dies down. He broke the law and I have no sympathy for a multi-millionaire who does something so criminal,so inhumane, so stupid.
