I ordered a 2007 Impala 3LT in Jan and got it in Feb. It was a very good decision for me. I love the big car feel and all the bells and whistles. Mine has the 3.9L V6 with the active fuel management system. Three of the cylinders shut off at highway speeds to conserve fuel. I get about 30 mpg when it does that. I can't tell a difference. I always use the cruise control, when applicable, to conserve fuel. At todays fuel prices you need to. Anyway, it's safe, comfy, and has a good stereo system (Bose). The a/c is ice cold (because it's new) and with all of the standard safety features, it was a good buy. My only complaint after being in it for about 6 months is it does nose dive under heavy emergency braking, but it never looses control. It's front wheel drive and all that weight transfers forward. They are very popular here in the Chicago area with good reason. They are great winter cars. Standard traction control in my model. I also have a block heater because there are a few days in the winter when it's really needed. Since I was ordering the car anyway, what's another $50 on a $25K car? Big deal.

So in summary, it's a good car man! Get one and like it. If you wait another year, the 2009 Impala will be a rear wheel drive built on the new Camaro platform. FYI. Email me directly if you have any other questions. G'day!

Tony, GM has produced the Impala since 1958. It is the "Flag Ship" of Chevrolet as well as the Silverado truck. It gets great traction with good tires as it is front wheel driveand its nothing to put well over 200,000 mi on one with only a few componant replacements. So is the Buick Lacrosse,Grand Prix,Monte Carlo, all for about the same price. Also consider the Cobalt, pontiac G5 and G6 and the Saturn, Malibu, and for a litle more luxury, consider the Buick lucernne and the Caddy line up also

Check The Consumer Reports For Whatever Year You Are Looking For. While They Are A Good Vehicle Dont Be Fooled Just Because Many Agencies and Companies Have Them As Company Vehicles(Such As WalMart). Thats Due To The Size And They are Mass Produced For That Purpose.

It would matter on what model or year Impala you would be interested in.
But all the years of Impalas are good American cars.
Another good sign that Impalas are good cars is that Law Enforcement Agencies use them.

My friend has a 2004 Impala, and it is a nice ride! I'm more familiar with the older ones. They are very hot cars. I haven't heard of any problems with them, I only hear good things. I would buy one (an older one) if I coulld.

Mechanically the transmissions and V-6 Buick engines have been constantly updated to make them a a touch better every year. They handle well and have four models to choose from. They get great fuel economy (29-31) on trips and have more room than a Toyota Camry. The factory warranty is five years or 100,000 miles on the drive-train. Toyota's is 60,000 miles.

Someone above had a traction concern. If he had gone on line to tirerack.com tests are done to compare every tire they sell in a dozen categories. Wet and dry traction, light snow, deep snow, heat, quietness, tire wear and cornering ability ar a few of the tests.

Yes, I do not even like GM products, but from what I have experienced with them, the Impala is a good car... Still like Honda and Toyota better though.

If you are looking at one from 2000-2005, get the 3800 engine, which would be in the LS model. Great power and reliability. I have seen alot of 06's on used dealer lots.
