Our old basement laundry tub has got many stains and even some old paint stains. It's one of those plastic type tubs and it's in the workroom so it gets a fair bit of abuse (and gunk). I'm thinking a solvnet might work, but don't want to melt the plastic with something like acetone. I tried bleach with not much luck. Any ideas ?

Have you tried a mixture of Coment Cleanser & Lemon Juice? I used that mixture to clean an old plastic sink in an apartment when we lived in West Germany.

You can even try something like CLR, Lime-Away or Sno-Bowl to get the worst stains out..especially if they are rust or water stains. Just be careful when you use these, as they really irritate your skin.

The rest is elbow grease. I would suggest steel wool or brillo pads.

Try vinigar, just plane white vinigar. It is really great for cleaning, it smells gross but works wonders. I found this out by spiiling a bunch on the garage floor, it cleaned the spot so well I've started using it on everything that's tough to clean!

bleach will get most of it, elbow grease will get the rest, most paint wont stick to plastic. But if it does spot check some paint striper.

While you are cooking up a cleaning formula...just make sure you don't mix cleaning agents....you might fume yourself to death. Word to the wise.
