More importantly do you still cheer him on? What if he goes to a hated rival? Are your hockey heroes on your hometeam easily replaceable or have you accepted hockey as a buisness with no real team loyalty for these players???

No reaction, it's a business.

Do people feel the same way when their parents switch jobs?

Do you feel the same way when your favourite player retires?

I've learned over the years to admire players more than admire franchises. I've learned to realize that the game is bigger than averything else. Jeremy Roenick and Deam McAmmond are the only players left whom I had a hand in drafting, and I've cheered them on all along, wherever they've played.

You mentioned 'no team loyalty for these players'...............that's a two way street...there's no player loyalty for teams either. The salary cap ensures that.

well first off i cry for a few days and examine the trade if i think it was a bad one then i make it clear to everyone i speak to that the gm is a dumb a.s.s

do i still cheer for him if he goes to a hated rival... it depends how he goes, if he gets traded yea. if hes at the end of his contract with his team and decides to sign with the hated rival it also depends.
was it clear that he only did it for the money? if so then no i hate his guts.
did he do it for because he wanted more a longer stay with the team? if so the yes i still root for him.
or did he leave because his team did not want him bak?if so then yes i still root for him.

and as far as the hero's go to me a hero is someone that doesn't do it for the money but for the love of the game and when he falls in love with the atmosphere in his hometown he makes it abundantly clear that he would lie to finish his career there.

as for others, most people consider the hero to be the one with the big hits or the clutch goals and when they leave no they are not easily replaceable not matter wat, even if you have accepted that there is no real team loyalty

I would still cheer him on but not as much as before. If he requested a trade and he got traded to a hated rival he would lose my respect entirely.

"Are your hockey heroes on your hometeam easily replaceable or have you accepted hockey as a buisness with no real team loyalty for these players???"

I don't get what your asking there.

I am glad you asked that. When I was still living in Milwaukee, I can still remember the day.. Because it was ON MY BIRTHDAY.. I have always been a Leafs fan. MY two favorite Leafs players Eddie Olczyk and Mark Osborne were traded to the Winnipeg Jets. I was stunned. when my favorite players are traded. Yeah I still root for them even on teams I hate, but I do scream, throw things especially a tantrum. When Damphousse and Richardson were traded to the Oilers not long after that I really lost it.

I lose a little faith in the people running the team.

As far as the player is concerned, it depends on who is traded, released, or allowed to sign elsewhere.

When I was a kid, I was so attached to the Flyers that I hated to see any player from the championship teams move on. I became maturer and more aware of things while letting emotional attachments go. As the years went on, there were two transactions that stand out to me.

The "What on Earth were you thinking?" nominee is the Mikael Renberg / Chris Gratton brain cramp that Bobby Clarke suffered. I could hear explanations til the end of time and never see any good reason to make that goof.

The "What century were you going to wait for?" nominee is the permission the Flyers granted to Eric Lindros to seek employment elsewhere. In short, he was a bum. He couldn't leave Philly fast enough if he was riding a bullet.

Honorable mention for both categories:

a) Rod Brind'Amour (well, we did get Keith Primeau but Roddy is my kind of player).

b) Alexandre Daigle (he should be in jail for stealing his pay).

oh I'm just horrible at losing almost any player in our team.

When Patrick Roy left the Habs I stopped watching hockey for several years (let's just say that I had 2 kids and one in the hospital on the day he left, so it wasn't a very hard thing for me to do at the time, hockey wasn't the first thing on my mind) BUT...I think what they did to Roy was very wrong and I couldn't support it.

My favorite player at the moment is still with us, but, I was VERY upset when they traded Rivet, and though I won't cheer for his team, I still cheer for him and wish him nothing but the best. Same goes for Theo. I still feel like he's a part of us and I feel really bad for all that's going on with him

Ribeiro was really the only player I didn't mind seeing him go at all.

Now I'm really stuck on my feelings for Souray, I think he's a good player and supper great with his fans, but... now that he's been traded, he's not being nice to us at all, and the fans loved him here!!!

anyhow, to make a long story short, I support the player but I can't support the team they play for. Though I did support Colorado when Roy left...but..never against my Habs!

I don't have a loyalty to the players as much as the team.

Havlat, Kane, taves could be traded and I'd know it was a business deal and that they were not keen on playing for the indianhead, so **** 'em!
Though I liked smoke, I think smoke only cares about smoke and would play anywhere that paid him.
Some trades wirtz made were unpopular, but most of his fukkups were a reluctancy to NOT sign players, rather than a trade.

I guess this would be the opposite about Rob Blake. I was a fan of his since he came from bowling green. I was pissed when he went to Colorado and rooted against him. Now that he is back with the KINGS; i am happy and back on his side.
He's a leader; no dbout. He should do good here since we are a very young team and rebuilding. I expect him to be captain again this year. Since we went without a captain when we traded our captain {again} Matty Norstrom to Dallas near the end of the season last year in a desperate dash for the playoffs {which we missed again} .........We'll see.

I might have to tell you after this season.

Miikka Kirusoff will become an unrestricted free agent (unless they get a deal done) because he rejected their last offer and i guess wants to test the free agency.

I would still cheer him on, because well you cant just forget about a player like that and stop cheering them on...

The only thing i have had to deal with is Montreal just recently signing Roman Hamrlik. He was one of my fav Flames. and now hes gone .. i hope to see him help the habs a lot but i wish he didnt leave.
