Diabolical!

If all else fails, you could have them get someone to come in and clean it out. They should have done that before you moved in!

Well, if your fridge isn't working properly, it could very well be because of the dirt.

First, defrost your fridge. You will find that it runs differently without a thick layer of frost inside the freezer compartment.
While it is defrosting, clean the fridge. Remove everything inside it, and wash the interior with a good dish washing detergent and water, and a washcloth. Dry the surfaces well.

Then before you put anything back inside it, pull it out from the wall and vacuum the coils at the back of it. They are probably covered with dust, which is one reason fridges stop working properly. Then vacuum the front of the fridge under the door. This area often has vent slots which have also become filled with dust.

After you do all these things, (and by the way, the landlord expects you to do all these things since it's considered regular maintenance on the tenant's contract), then you can accurately assess the condition of the fridge and whether or not it should be replaced by the landlord.

Don't do anything illegal; landlords aren't stupid, and any act of sabotage will be noticed and the landlord will file for damages, plus you will lose your reference.

Clean it up with bleach so that its clean and sparkly then call your landlord and tell him that you think refrigerator has problems because the temperature does funny things. Tell him it caused fresh milk to spoil.
You don't have to do anything to it. And if telling a little lie bothers you think about what you were willing to do in the first place.

Some people love cheap living. Go buy a freakin' new one. My wife spent $2000 on a fridge and you won't spend $400 on a basic model? I'll bet you didn't change the toilet seat either.
